Hep Hep Hurray!
Date / Time : Monday, December 22, 2008 / 9:05:00 PM |

Every Chirstmas break, I always find msyelf posting tons of picture but I guess, a lot of wonderful things happen during this time, not to mention serious backlogs in blogging due to time constraint in school.

The last time my High School friends and I really bonded was last summer. And that was when we swam at Migs' condo.

Ever since I got into UP, I tried my best to be active in our gimiks since we thought it would be so much easier to see each other. But sadly, law school made it really hard. But hey, at least improving 'di ba! Hehehe :P

For the first time in 4 years, I was present in our Christmas party. My high school friends held our Christmas party at CHINO's ('yan ah!) house. Many were absent including the now proclaimed life of the party, VAL. She's in Pangasinan until now doing some auditing for SGV. From time to time kasi, silence falls upon the group and it never really happens whenever Val is present. Buti na lang, Chinoboy was there to save the night!!!

Early birds

With late comers Knowell, Patrizzi, Migs and though he's missing... Irvinne. :P

We played our favorite game of Hep Hep Hurray (H2H)! Hahaha. :D I won the first round but come the second round, all our efforts became futile since Patrizzi's H2H power is illimitable! :P After that we had our exchange gifts worth 50pesos. We put our phones in a plastic bag and turned off the light and picked one from the bag. Whoever owns the phone that was picked is the "santa". I got Chino's and Pocholo got Anakat's. But since Anakat's gift is for a girl and my gift from Bigtime Chino is cash, Pocholo and I swapped. After that, Knowell was put in the hotseat, he was burned.

Omar and company drove me home around 3am. I wasn't a bit sleepy due to all the caffeine (I don't drink). When I got home, I found this:

She's a fawn black pug and her name's Bea. We wanted to name her something else but my brother kept on insisting that we should call her by no other name. You see, according to her papers, her name is "Bea from Dogvilla" so we can't call her by another name which is kind of awkward since our cousin's daughter's name is Bea and she comes here during Christmas party. And we're not really fond of the kid (she's so mean and bratty) so they might think that we did it on purpose. I tried suggesting that we call her Bella (Twilight) since it sounds like Bea (and from the moment I read the book, I really wanted to have a pet named Bella). But again, my brother said it would just confuse everybody. (Who's "everybody"??)

She's so cute (pangit + maliit). PURPLE! :))

I was going to include Malcolm Madness in this post but I think it deserves its own spot.

I'm loving the season :)

Happy Busy Christmasy Law Schooly Lifey
Date / Time : Sunday, December 21, 2008 / 4:56:00 AM |

I don't remember much from whom I got each picture but I do remember stealing (hehe) them from Celeni Guinto, Cels Europa, Ros Nonato, Bambi Gumban, Stella Libanan and Demi God Eva Gutierrez! Some pictures, I put a little extra. Thank you guys! :))

December 16 marked the end of our classes for this year (yipee!). Dean was so nice that I'll love him until our next meeting. Really, I Dean Leonen. :) After class, we decided to eat at the new UP-Ayala Techno hub in Commonwealth, tapat ng UP. Since only few areas were leased and some resto hasn't opened yet, the class decided to eat at Flapjacks which gave birth to a special day for a certain chirpy person. hehe

What's so special about December 16? It's CK's Flapjacks birthday! Hahaha It's a really sneaky thing to do but all was just for fun so kids, don't do this okay? While we were eating, we sang "Happy Birthday CK" several times. I think it's about the fifth time when the waiter brought out the chocololate chip pancakes for the "birthday" girl. On the house. Hehe Sakto 'cos we were really going to CK's house after lunch and I think it was that conversation about us having dinner at CK's that made the crew believe that it really was her birthday. Hehehe. But no, it's not her birthday just to clear things up.

The day after that, Dec. 17, was the Lantern Parade and our block's Christmas Party! Pocholo and I weren't able to watch the whole parade but I think it was nice. After that, we went to Malcolm Hall to wait with other friends for our ride to BRAD.

On our way, CK introduced us to the Kris Aquino Complex game. How to play it? Just ask something about yourself and let them guess or answer it. Who answers first will ask a question about him/herself. Though I haven't seen it, according to CK, Stella's starex plate number was 8.

Early birds. We arrived around 9pm.

Pocholo and I... hehehe

More people arriving. yey, it's about time!

Aldous explaining the mechanics of the game. He won the Pinakamahal ng prof award as well as the raffle! Thanks to Stella and her sister for sponsoring the place. Visit BRAD @ Harbour Square.

Mallow eating contest: Cels and Pocholo. I keep telling Cels I have my eyes on her. hehehe

Newspaper dance featuring Jam and Dan.

Pusoy dos: Me, Tope, Ron, Juno and Cham. Hahaha don't ask how many times I lost. Go ask Rai!

The organizers of a very very happy happy christmas party! Marru, our very beautiful president and Patrizzi, our sexy secretary.

Trip to Bananalethlehem. It's a version of trip to Jerusalem but instead of sitting on chairs, you have to put the banana in the hole. =P Jam thought of these games :)
,
Poker for poker lovers. hahaha I don't know how to play.

Juno mixing the drinks. You should ask her, she's really good at it. :)

Exchange gifts! Hehehe CK: "I knew it!!!"

Anyway, here's my side of the story. CK and I were among the few who folded the small pieces of paper with names on it after our class in oblicon. The last name I folded was hers and I joked her about it. BUT I did put the folded paper with her name on it on Juno's palm. So the time came when everyone was picking their "babies" and after several people got theirs, I picked one for myself. I opened it and CK's name was on it! Hahaha actually I was kind of sad for the first 20 seconds until I heard her say (not verbatim) "I think we should have a wishlist since I don't like receiving things I don't want." =P

Celeni Guinto. The happiest person I (and the rest of the people who knows her) know.

It wasn't hard not to tell her that it was me, that I got her, but obviously she made it hard 'cause she assigned me as the mediator between her and her secret santa who was me! She gave me her Coffee Bean Swirl Card and told me to give it to my secret santa when he or she claims it. I almost forgot about it but luckily I remembered it 2 days after so I told her that her secret santa claimed the swirl card which was actually with me the whole time. I tried leading her suspicions to the wrong way by pretending to have slipped by saying "konti lang yung...(boys)" when she proposed that if she guessed it right I'll tell her. Hahaha :)) Then she said "so boy?" and I was laughing inside... hahaha :))

Then last Dec. 16 after I came from her house, I was about to reload her card when the lady told me that the swirl card cannot be reloaded since it was under maintenance since November and would be out until January 2009. I knew right there and then that if I asked CK what she wants, I would be exposing myself and the mystery would be spoiled. Then I had an idea. I told her that I'm sorry I only got the message of --- just now and that --- is asking what she wants since --- wasn't able to visit her blog. Hahaha :)) And basing it from the way she narrated it, she did believe that I wasn't her secret Santa!

Anyway, enough about Celeni Guinto she's all over the page!... hahaha :))

Yes, we ate Aldous' prize in the raffle. It was yummy. I just don't know what it's called

With Angela Felicia, my secret santa mommy. I wished for big bag where all my books can fit during Wednesday and she gave me this awesome bag I really liked so much!!! :''')))

Ang pagwawala. Dancing all night long.

I know I chose the same picture but I just have to pose this since my two hands raising the glass with iced-tea is in the middle. Hehehe. Anyway, this picture from Stella is so poetic since for me it represents our future as a block. I don't know if the de-blocking will push through to give way to a new system but I am really against it. What I really like about now is that there are no issues. (Of course, if you're an issue maker you'd dismiss that statement as impossible, but really, just believe.) As a class, I think we've adapted to one another. There's balance and equilibrium. Not everyone is bibo but some are bibo to sacrifice for one another. Some are meek to complement the loud. Anyway, enough about being emo. hahaha. I'm not Bella.

Great minds think alike! Happy Christmas A2012!

Bantay Korte Suprema
Date / Time : Sunday, December 14, 2008 / 10:01:00 PM |

Last December 11, the signing of the second Memorandum of Understanding with regard to the Bantay Korte Suprema was held at the Faculty Lounge in Malcolm Hall. The Dean, our professor for Constitutional Law 2 that day, was part of the signing and our class was asked to be part of it as witnesses and audience.

Signing the MOU. The guy in the right side wearing checkered polo is a media man doing his thing.

What's it all about?
Since seven (7) justices of the Supreme Court will retire next year and it is important to maintain equilibrium in the three branches of the government, there is a need for transparency on how these seven seats will be occupied. Spearheaded by, among others, Dean Marvic Leonen of the UP College of Law, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban, The Bantay Korte Suprema (BKS) was created "to ensure that the nomination, evaluation, recommendation and appointment (by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) of the seven incoming Supreme Court justices (in replacement of the seven high court justices expected to retire next year) be transparent and public, not duly influenced by parochial and short-term political considerations."

Why care?

Decisions of the Supreme Court (SC) become part of the law of the land. A decision rendered by the SC in a case not only affects the parties in that case but everyone else since it is the interpretation and application of the law in question in a given set of facts (ratio decidendi). It will be applied to similar set of facts in a case that may arise in the future and if repeated over time, it becomes a doctrine. The law will not only be read in its text but from then on, it will be read with such decision. How a law is interpreted and applied depend on those who are and will be sitting as Justices of the Supreme Court. It is important that the Judiciary remains free from any political influence.

Sen. Pangilinan with Patrizzi and Marru's back from my point of view as a witness and audience. Hehe Celeni and I's picture with Sen. Pangilinan to follow na lang =P

She finally meets her kryptonite (in law school).
Date / Time : Tuesday, December 09, 2008 / 7:50:00 PM |

A while ago, I finally met my kryptonite subject in law school. The funny thing is that it was really unexpected.

What I mean by kryptonite is that it is most likely the subject where I would be helpless and would be my problem for this semester. You know, superman has his kryptonite, Achilles has his heel. What happened this afternoon was a bad start and I should have exercised extraordinary diligence since I always knew my powers and luck have always been weak to madame professors.

It was unexpected in the sense that the subject itself, at first glance, is not a threat. It's a 2-unit subject that is overshadowed by 4 and 5-unit and subjects where I think I'm doing pretty well. Notwithstanding the fact that I studied just the same as I did in the big subjects... in proportion to the number of units.

What happened was a fortuitous event that was humanized, thus becoming a non-fortuitous event at all. It was an act of God that my card, of all the 36 cards, was picked. At the same time, it was humanized because as I said, I should have been diligent most especially with a lady professor.

This was a period-- a future and CERTAIN event that is bound to happen although not known when for all law students.

But today, the period has arrived for me and the subject has become demanding (hahaha I'm just connecting it to being demandable).

Moving on to a less depressing subject... our grades in Persons are here. My tres turned out to be a dos while Pocholo's dos turned out to be 1.75. :) So we're safe for the first semester but it looks like we're plummeting down this second semester. Good thing Christmas break is coming. Pocholo and I certainly need a break from school.

A much, much, much happier news is that my parents are here now and we're going to spend Christmas together!!! :D As long as my family is good, no amount of kryptonite in school would bring my spirit down. :)

No this is not my kryptonite. Thank you CK for this thank you card. Hehehe. Don't worry, I won't impinge on your constitutional right. Hehehe.
