ADVICE TO SELF:
Date / Time : Tuesday, April 29, 2008 / 10:01:00 PM |

TEMPER, temper, temper. Anger Management is included in the total reform of you and your life. To avoid trouble, stop getting close to who you think is trouble. After all, there's only one person who visited with vicious will. Who was Kit again? Better refresh your memory dear. Remember, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. :)

Nouveau Rich Bitch
Date / Time : Sunday, April 27, 2008 / 9:00:00 PM |

It takes a certain caliber
Of person to achieve
The kind of bitchy status
People see fit to believe.

I'm sorry, you don't make the grade,
You'll never be a bitch.
For one, you're not that witty;
Number two, you're nouveau rich.

You can't make caustic comments
And expect them to be true
When the person that you criticize
Is better dressed than you.

And if you're planning to attempt
At dry and subtle wit,
Then brush up on the diction first
Or else admit "defitt."

You see, it's very simple dear,
A bitch should have it all.
And there are things, like breeding,
That you can't buy at the mall.

So give it up while you're ahead,
Your efforts make me scoff.
You try too hard, just stop before
You really piss me off.

This (bitchy) poem was written by Chinie Hidalgo from the book The Blair Bitch Project. Yes, the same title of episode 14 of Gossip Girl, that I just finished watching a few minutes ago. Buy it, read it, love it. It helped me through a rough time by making me laugh while dedicating this and that to certain people. Jenny's a nouveau rich bitch! A sub-specie of a sociopath! Blair is Blair! A Waldorf with a breeding. Don't you just hate it when nouveau rich bitches strike?

This is for all the "Jenny's" in the world! :)

Can't help but be a bum
Date / Time : Saturday, April 26, 2008 / 11:26:00 AM |

Funny how my pet's bum became an inspiration for this pondering.

Am I really a bum now that I graduated from college? Probably. If you define a "bum" as someone who does not have a work, still lives in his/her parents' house and is rather classified in the family's financial statement as an expense rather than an income then yes, I am a "bum". That's a bummer. But I can't help but be a bum.

Pending classes this June, I'm a bum not because I can't find a decent job but because I opt to be one. If I choose to work this summer and then resign by June, it would be really embarrassing. Embarrassing for myself, to my employer and to my parents. I can't bare to go on an interview and tell the company that I'd stay long so I could get hired and then resign by the end of the month and explain to them my real plans. And to my parents because... because of the theory of "remunerated benefits" (Art. 100 Labor Standards).

"So why not work in call center?" It's kind of a personal vow to myself. No offense to those who work in one. It's just that I've learned in Labor Standards that though we Filipinos think that Call Centers pay well (which they do) and are very "generous", the truth is employees here do not receive what's really due to them. It's a long explanation but the bottom line is that call centers do not pay their employees in their home-country and their employees here in the Philippines equally. Sounds fair if you compare it domestically but internationally, there is wage distortion. But hey, I'm not against call-centers since they provide employment here, I just don't like the idea of me being "cheated".

Going back, I have to say between these options, I'd stick to being a bum. Much gratitude to my parents for not hearing a word about it from them. I promise that once I graduate again, they would be the bum this time.

And I thought the Juris Doctor Program was only in Ateneo
Date / Time : Thursday, April 24, 2008 / 7:24:00 PM |

I traveled from UST to UP today to complete all the requirements needed for enrollment. One word. SUCCESS!

I met up with Pat at our usual meeting place in UST, which is at the second bench of the Thomasian walk. I got there around 11:30am and after Pat showed-off his new leather watch, we immediately headed off to the Registrar at the Main Building to get our Certificate of Graduation. Luckily, Ms. Claire, who is in charge of all AB students, was very agreeable and she quickly gave the certificates without any interrogation. Strike one.

After having lunch in KFC carpark, we proceeded to Dapitan to photocopy our birth certificates and to print two passport size photos. Afterwards we took an FX (SM Fairview) and got off at Philcoa, then rode a UP Campus jeepney and asked the driver to drop us off at the shopping center. No, we did not shop. You see, we had to pay the PhP100.00 admission fee at the cashier's office and since it was out of the way, we had to get off there. The office was only two lots away.

When we got there at the Cashier's office, the line was long and it seems it was at snail pace. And so we waited, thinking of every possible fruitful and enjoyable topic we could think of, just so we could forget that we're tired and that it was too humid. Waiting, apparently, not only tests patience but wits as well. Then it happened. The guard called the last 13 persons, including Pat and I, and told us to go inside the air-conditioned room. It fortunately turned out, there was a shorter, faster and less boorish line inside. Strike two.

The next on our list was to submit the receipt at the OCS in Malcolm Hall. We walked again for another thirty meters or so while trying to finish our ice cream before it melts into goo. We arrived at Malcolm Hall a couple of minutes later and end up submitting all the requirements including the admission fee receipt, honorable dismissal, certificate of graduation, two passport size pictures and photocopy of our birth certificate.

We weren't able to go home after that because we had to wait for the registrar to sign the reply slip of the transfer credentials and he hadn't come back yet. So Pat and I looked around and saw the memorandum for graduating students. A line caught our attention. It read "This is the first batch to be conferred with the Juris Doctor Degree in Law in the..." We got confused because we knew that the UP College of Law does not have a Juris Doctor Program and that only Ateneo offers it. To clear up all the confusion, we asked the lady-in-charge if they offer the Juris Doctor Program and she told me that starting from this year's graduating batch, the UP College of Law is now conferring Juris Doctor Degrees to all its subsequent graduates. [Read more about Juris Doctor Program here] I'm speechless. Wow. Strike three

I don't remember which came first--the forms or the sectioning but heck, the latter is much more interesting! You see, the sectioning was determined not by a systematic way but by randomly picking a folder. Yes, you heard it right, by picking a folder. Palabunutan. Pat was the first one to pick. He closed his eyes and picked one brown folder from four identical pieces. He was section A. We scanned the list and saw no one familiar there. My turn. I stared at my left while I picked from the right. I chose the second folder I could reach but changed my mind at the last minute. I changed to the third instead. I placed it on the table, slowly opened it, and scanned the list. I saw the name! Pat's name! Pat and I are going to be classmates again for the next four years! Oh joy. You're out.

That's how my day went.

The truth is, I really don't know if I will be able to slug it out there or if my luck is enough to get me through law school. But hey, I'm just happy to get in. Just one step at a time. After all, who wouldn't be glad to be in their dream school... with their boyfriend?

Cheers! :)

Because you showed me what snogging is
Date / Time : Tuesday, April 22, 2008 / 11:01:00 AM |

Pat told me the other day that he saw pirated DVDs of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Talk about spoilers. On the other hand, having read the book, the only "spoiler" I have to worry of is whether or not the movie can do justice to J.K. Rowling's writings. Though I have to say the orphanage looks exactly what I imagined it to be when I read the book.

The movie's going to be released around November but I can't help myself, I just have to have a sneak peek. For those who haven't read the book yet, it's safe to watch this short video, there's no give-away, so no worries.

In my opinion, I think it's just right that they will make two movies out of the seventh book (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) because every part of that book needs to be included in the movie for the viewers to really grasp and appreciate how godly the story is. When I was reading it, I can't seem to put the book down. There's always anticipation. Well, I just hope that viewers who are non-readers will share the same sentiments and excitement as I had-- that they'd be on the edge of their seats during the whole of the two movies.

Let the good times roll...
Date / Time : Sunday, April 20, 2008 / 11:33:00 AM |

Hey everybody, let's have some fun
You only live for once
And when you're dead you're done
So let the good times roll, let the good times roll
And live a long long
I don't care if you are young or old no no,
get together and let the good times roll

Don't stand there moaning, talking trash
If you wanna have some fun,
You'd better go out and spend some cash
And let the good time roll
Let the good time roll
I don't care if you're young or old,
Get together and let the good times roll!

Clock Ticks

Every day is important. Every hour is important. As well as every minute and every second. But most of all, everyone is important. It's kind of sad that I only remember how fragile life can be if someone passes away. But for my classmate Iya, she never forgets, especially when it comes to her dad.

We're off to her dad's funeral later.

Condolences to Iya Llapitan and her family. Her father, Benny Llapitan, died yesterday, April 18, 2008. Please pray for the repose of his soul and for the loved ones he left behind.

Smoke in Mirrors
Date / Time : Thursday, April 17, 2008 / 12:55:00 PM |

yellow cab+sbarro. I haven't read any book this summer. Maybe it's time that I should read one. And maybe I'll start with Jayne Ann Krentz' New York Times Bestseller Smoke in Mirrors. Yes I am a sucker for romance and mystery. Guilty pleasure I guess. I've been thinking of including the books of Agatha Christie in my summer reading list. I was named after her and I think it's about time I get to know her (or her writings). And some John Grisham, to heighten my excitement for my first semester in law school. I've also been pondering on what else to do this summer. My summer kicked off with a blast when we went to Baguio and La Union only to have an anti-climax by being stuck at home. But I'm being optimistic here. I believe something great will happen this summer.

Pat and I went to UP yesterday to give the confirmation letter. The truth is, I really don't know what I'm feeling. I have this nostalgia, like I miss the feeling of being in UST. But probably, this is just one of those after graduation effects.

Many people, including my brother, asked me this question:
"Sino na susuportahan mo sa UAAP? UP or USTe?"

To answer their question (or yours):
"As of now, great weight tips in favor of USTe. Ewan. Wala lang. I will always be a Thomasian. :) Pero I hope na dumating 'yung time na makiki-UP fight! na rin ako. Hehehe para masaya! :)"

No Rice Diet
Date / Time : Monday, April 14, 2008 / 6:22:00 AM |

The rice shortage is all over the news. It seems that the slogan "ramdam ang pag-asenso" clearly does not apply to most Filipinos. The government is "doing" something about it by selling the cheaper NFA rice. On the other hand, there are still those who do not feel empathic to their fellowmen who cannot cope up with the sudden increase of rice prices. In their greed, they repackage the NFA rice and sell it at a more expensive price. What a cheap thing to do, in my opinion.

Apparently, my "no rice diet" is a form of apathy and insult to my kapwa-Pinoy who cannot afford to eat three meals a day of our staple food. From now on, I will skip the "no rice diet" and instead have rice in every meal as a statement that rice is indispensable to the Filipino meal.

Okay, maybe not every meal. Just one meal. :)

Oh Vita Bella!
Date / Time : Friday, April 11, 2008 / 5:04:00 PM |

Oh beautiful life!

Lately I've been thinking, life's not that bad after all. Maybe there is truth in the saying that there's always sunshine after the storm. But hey, I'm not here to discuss life, or ponder about it right now. I'm here to share what had transpired these past few days. Let me see...

Pat and I passed UP Law last Wednesday. So before going to UP, I brought every good luck charm I have-- my lucky earrings, my lucky shirt, my lucky VS perfume, my lucky natsci test paper and my lucky boyfriend. :) Pat and I were supposed to meet at the Block but he was late so I waited and told him to text back when he arrives. So I waited and when I looked at my phone, I got two messages, both from the two Pats in my life. One from Patrick--the preview of which read "By, dito na ko..." and the other from Patricia--which previewed "Egs!! Congrats! Law stu..." So which one did I open first? Patricia's of course! But I was multi-tasking, I was running fast to Pat. The whole message read "Egs!! Congrats! Law students n tau! haha :)" I excitedly hugged Pat and told him that I passed. Still, we went to UP to confirm the news because you know, it's really hard to let it sink in when there's a percentage of error. But to cut the story short, yes the news was true. I even saw one of my panelists. You see, I only had two panelists during my interview. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad 'cause typically, there are three panelists. To continue my story, I saw one of my panelists and he recognized me. He asked me "Nakapasa ka?" and I nodded. Then he joked "Paano nangyari 'yon? Hehe" and I shrugged and said "God's intervention :)" Oh I love my panelists!

Before knowing the results, I was frustrated and anxious during the whole waiting period. There were times that I would cry and get angry. I was sure that I'd fail. What irks me the most is the fact that if I fail, Pat and I would be separated and I'm not sure if I'll be able to enroll in Ateneo because of the short span of time. But the night before the results were released, Pat and I thought of and MADE UP some reasons why I would pass (we did not have to ponder about him for he was sure to pass), such as:

1. I only had two panelists and both were young male professors
2. My panelists smiled back at me during the interview and my charms rubbed on them--presumably
3. April 2--the day of my interview was my late grandfather's birthday
4. I worked hard for 4 years
5. I answered most of the questions well--except for the whole "what makes a great lawyer?" and the "very what" moment
6. I felt some connection when I first walked in inside Malcolm Hall--that I knew I'd come back to it
7. UP is near my place
8. Ateneo is too far & expensive for me
9. My gwa and lae scores are high--presumably
10. Atty Chua said it's automatic if you're a magna cum laude--prima facie due to Ruiz & Relopez
11. I was going to bring all my good luck charms--which always worked and of course..
12. God meant for Patrick and I to be TOGETHER because we were MEANT for each other ♥

And you know what? Of all these supposedly "reasons", I think the last one weighed the heaviest.

"Malcolm Hall, here we come!"

I brought tissue 'cause I thought I'd cry

Today, I organized my files and I found this. It's the video I made for the report in Public Administration during the 2nd semester in my senior year in college--which was just last semester. I only edited it using Movie Maker so the quality's not that great. It was supposed to be the introduction of our powerpoint presentation BUT sadly, I forgot to include the file in my usb. Silly me. Good thing I was able to use some of the clips in our subsequent report in DPWH. :) Pat and I shot these scenes and interviewed manong, a regular beggar in Dapitan. And let me tell you, he has a story to tell.

I left Malcolm Hall with a heavy heart. I did really bad in the interview and I'm not getting my hopes up any longer. I really sucked. Do you want to know HOW? Simple lang. Na-Janina San Miguel lang naman ako kanina sa interview. Well, maybe not. Maybe 2nd runner up to her english--except for the whole "my pamily" thing. Oh I almost forgot. Remember that whole thing about just being silent as the worst scenario that could happen? Well, it did happen. BLAAHHHHH. Who wants to go to UP College of Law anyway?!

I DO.

Believe, believe, believe!!! I BELIEVE!

Yesterday, Tomorrow, Today
Date / Time : Tuesday, April 01, 2008 / 6:09:00 PM |

Yesterday was our graduation: Pat's parents met my parents and I think they all like each other. I was actually hesitating to introduce them to each other since Ma and Pa haven't met Pat officially. But all's good because everything went smoothly. We even had a family picture--Papa, Mama, Pat and I! Papa and I like the speech of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. She said that no matter how our relationship with people goes, just ignore it ('cos you can't please everyone) and instead focus on your relationship with God. If people get jealous, stab you, just continue living and succeeding 'cause in the end, it's our relationship with God that is important.

Tomorrow is the interview in UP law: I really don't have any idea how I'm going to pull it off. Pat asked me questions and rehearsed with me, and I really sucked in answering his questions. I just wish I won't cry and that the head of the admissions committee would be true to his word--that the lowest grade they'd give is 75.

Today I passed the exam in Ateneo Law School: They released the results of the exam awhile ago and Pat and I passed. What's more important is that we don't need to undergo an interview, we just need to enroll. Pat and I are having a dilemma because the results of our interview in UP would be released around April 20+ and we are required to enroll in Ateneo by April 11. That's next week. Pero kung makapasa lang ng UP, syempre UP pa rin! Hehehe!
